EVERGREEN CHARTER SCHOOL
SpanishSPANISH CURRICULUM
Grades K – 2
We start developing a love for languages at this very early age. It’s all about exploring and playing with the language. Having fun while learning, singing, making crafts, enjoying stories and attempting the first sentences in another language. We start developing the oral expression first while getting familiar with the sounds and representations of them in Spanish. By second grade students are attempting to write simple sentences all by themselves and/or guided support. We start to learn about festivities of Spanish speaking countries.
Grades 3 -5
Students are comfortable already with the second language. There are still songs and games and fun in the class. Reading and writing take a more important role at this age. Students not only learn how to read and write in another language but also to speak using the target language during the class to participate, to ask for permission, to ask for clarification and basic instructions. Role plays and acting out are key. We explore the culture, habits and celebrations of Spanish speaking countries.

Grades 6-9
We deepen the knowledge of Spanish. Students are introduced to classic texts, poems and novels from key authors in the Hispanic culture and tradition. Students are exposed to and attempt to write a variety of text types. Their vocabulary and grammar are expanded so they can choose the correct expressions according to the context. We start working on accuracy as well as fluency in the four skills. It’s all about real life contexts and uses in order to get them ready for the outside world. The goal is to have the students capable of communicating effectively if they travelled to a Spanish Speaking Country or even with the native speakers that are in their community.
