Evergreen Charter School is committed to use technology in the classroom as an effective and efficient tool for instruction and eagerly prepares its students for a technologically sophisticated world. With computers in each classroom, young students in kindergarten, grades one and two are encouraged to develop a variety of basic computer skills. As students move into the higher grades, they begin to work on word processing and may explore spreadsheet, presentation and publishing programs, as well as integrate technology into a range of projects.
At ECS we are encouraging our students to be digital learners and to enhance good instructional learning practices. We believe that technology brings the tools of empowerment into the hands and minds of our students. Therefore, we are teaching students to have 21st Century skills. These skills are taught in alignment to the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) and the NY Common Core Standards which include:
ECS is also committed to using technology in the classroom as an effective tool to instruction and eagerly prepares its students for the 21st Century and a technology sophisticated world. With computer stations in the classroom and a computer lab, students in grades K-6 are encouraged to develop a variety of basic computer skills. Students work on word processing, media presentations, publishing programs, and practice Computer Science as well as integrate technology into a range of projects.
The Computer Lab
The computer lab is integrated into all areas of the curriculum as an extension of the classroom. Each class (K-5) attends computer lab for a scheduled 45 minute period every week. A full-time Technology Specialist (Ms. Hernández) is present for all computer lab classes. Students are given assignments that are planned to coincide with current classroom studies and are taught keyboarding skills, the use of Office 365, Digital Citizenship, Internet Safety, and Research skills.
