Character Education

Evergreen Charter School was established with the philosophy to prepare children to live in a global community and respects the values and dignity of others.  This year we are starting a new school-wide character education program that aligns with that philosophy called Character Counts.

Character Counts teaches children key skills through 6 Pillars of Character:

1. Trustworthiness

2. Respect

3. Responsibility

4. Fairness

5. Caring

6. Citizenship

Through these six pillars of character, we help encourage our students to implement the pillars into everything they do.  We want students to show these important character traits at school, but to also carry these skills to home and into the community. Each pillar is associated with a character trait and a definition that will help students to understand the importance of having good character.

The Character Counts program was established in 1992 and is used by many students, not only in many Long Island schools, but across the United States.   We intend to make Character Counts an important part of our school community.

Each month will focus on one of the six pillars. We will be learning about the six pillars through a variety of weekly activities during school assembly and in the classroom.

The moral and ethical tone of the school is maintained by a commitment to the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
